Campaign Against Violence Keeps It Moving Back on the block: July 30th @ 12:30 PM on 20th & Center Milwaukee, WI- With the citizens of Milwaukee continuing to look for answers for the growing number of homicides, The Campaign Against Violence once again heads back to the streets with a determined attitude to stop neighborhood violence. This time around The Campaign Against Violence’s community empowerment rally/march will take place at the corner of 20th and Center at 12:30 PM on Saturday, July 30th. This is the Campaign Against Violence’s fifth march since the beginning of the summer. Nearly 250 community residents attended the last event. ”We are going to stay in the streets until the youth of this city learn to love themselves enough to stop killing each other,” said campaign outreach director Muhibb Dyer. “You can’t expect years of problems to go away over night. That’s why we are in it for the long haul.” Recently, The Campaign Against Violence increased their outreach efforts by adding a weekly community canvass during which 10-15 campaign volunteers hit the streets to talk to community residents about the problems in their neighborhoods. ”More than half of the adults on this block can’t find jobs, so you know that the youth aren’t going to be able to find work,” said one elderly woman from the 2300 block of N 19th St. “That’s why its seem like its so hard to talk to the young folks-they have no hope.” Despite the lack of hope, The Campaign Against Violence has made inroads into several neighborhoods and organizers are planning to conduct a citywide violence prevention and conflict resolution seminar later next month.
