After years of corporate meargers and aquasitions, has Red star Yeast become a worker owned collective?

A pirate flag now flies proudly above one of Milwaukee's oldest and enduring landmarks.

Red Star Yeast, a Milwaukee fixture for over 80 years was recently aquired by France's Lesaffre corporation and promptly shut down. Lesaffre claims that the Milwaukee plant is outdated and not as efficient as they require. Production has been moved to "more efficient" locations in Iowa and Mexico, eliminating high paying jobs from Milwaukee.

It seems, however, that pirates are now operating the plant. The pirates could not be interviewed for this story, as they were presumably off site leading workshops for other worker owned collectives.

As more featured articles are added, it will be lower on the site. The only featured articles which are taken down right away are notices for events which have passed. Otherwise other articles stay up until, for some reason, the collective determines they are to be taken down.
