More Peace activists arrested at Rep. Obey’s office – Wausau, WI

Last week three area peace activists were arrested when they would not leave (D) Rep. Dave Obey’s office at the time of closing. This past Monday, 4 more activists were arrested.

All activists were seeking assurances that Rep. Obey would start to cut off funding to the War in Iraq, or at least the “Surge” escalation of troop buildup by the Bush administration. Obey is the head of the Congressional Appropriations Committee and has the power do so. When no assurances were given by his office, these two groups staged a sit in until the police arrived to remove them.
